Marleah & Kanistanaux

Today I have a very exciting news clipping to share with to my readers. I have finally located some Kanistanaux family members prior to the 1870 Census.
This just goes to show that patience, persistence, and constantly revisiting sites I have already searched eventually pays off. It only took me 2 years and a new newspaper search engine to find this!

Today’s deed is another sale of the Stockton homestead property, but this time it is not such a sad event.

Stockton Deeds – 1879 Purchase

This post is a bit more upbeat then my last. Today’s deed shows the Kanistanaux family was able to repurchase a portion of their original lot in Stockton.

Unfortunately, the images for these documents are huge so I will not be following my usual pattern of providing copies of the documents here with the post. The images are all found on the free familysearch website, so I will provide links directly to their images for anyone interested in seeing the actual documents.

Stockton Deeds – 1874 Sale

Today’s post is an unexpected discovery. I did not expect to find the sale of the Stockton property less than a year after it’s purchase.

I will not be following my usual pattern of providing copies of the documents here with the post. The images are all found on the free familysearch website, so I will provide links directly to their images for anyone interested in seeing the actual documents.

Stockton Deeds – 1874 Purchase

Today I am beginning a series of posts concerning land records that have been located for the Kanistanaux family in Stockton and nearby.

I would like to thank Cheryl Keisling for performing a tedious search through un-indexed county records to locate these useful documents.

Unfortunately, the images for these documents are huge so I will not be following my usual pattern of providing copies of the documents here with the post. The images are all found on the free familysearch website, so I will provide links directly to their images for anyone interested in seeing the actual documents.

Indians in Paris – Index

This post contains all the links to the various posts I have written concerning Native American People participating in the 1867 Universal Exposition held in Paris, France.

Readers of this series might also be interested in learning more about U-ta-wa-un and the two Native American women known to have traveled with him.

1867 American Circus – Dress Rehearsal

Today’s post has nothing to do with genealogy, but the illustrations were uncovered as part of my Indians in Paris research.
I decided these circus illustrations are historically important and should be available to the public. Since this blog is public what better place to offer them. I hope my readers enjoy this short side trip.

U-ta-wa-un – Illustrated

Well, this may be the last of the Indians in Paris series, but then again it may not. Let’s see what the future brings.
Today I am sharing a number of cartoons found in the New York and Paris media in 1867 which may be directed at my good friend U-ta-wa-un. The humor of the times is often foreign to me. I don’t understand everything, but perhaps some of my readers will. In any case, it is interesting to find these items and fun to share them.
